So, I bought a PS3

Yeah, I know

Unfortunately, there are a bunch of movies that are only on Blu-ray. I got a 20% off coupon from Best Buy in the mail the other day, and was able to use it on a 40GB PS3 ($319 + tax). It came out to be the cheapest Blu-ray player.

Here’s my take on it:

Pros:

  • Plays Blu-ray movies nicely
  • Came with Spiderman 3 + 5 free movies by mail
  • Very quiet
  • Looks nice
  • No brick-style power supply
  • Connections much easier on back of console

Cons:

  • Dashboard interface S-U-C-K-S
  • Uses bluetooth for remote, so won’t work with my Harmony 880 without 3rd party adapter
  • Controller lacks rumble, and is so light it feels cheap
  • No HD cables included (HDMI or component - :wtf: )
  • PS online sucks
  • Demo downloads take forever, and then another 30 minutes while they “install”
  • Wouldn’t play any of my DivX movies
  • Feels very disconnected (360 feels very connected and I always know what my friends are doing/playing,etc.

The only demo I tried on it was Turok, and the graphics on it were ok but not next-gen great. I’ll try some other titles because I think it will be as good as the 360.

So, it’s going to serve its purpose as a Blu-ray player for me, but I doubt it will see much gaming time.

I’ll add some more thoughts when I get some more time to mess with it.

No, I didn’t buy an iPhone

A bunch of people have asked me whether I bought that cool new iPhone. My answer is NO!

EDGE + no third party software = teh lose. Seriously, every one of my WM smartphones can do more than the iPhone, and I can watch my TiVo on my phone… The only thing I like about the iPhone is the cool interface, but that seems like it would get old after a while. I have to admit I would feel silly pulling out my iPhone in the middle of a meeting with senior management. My WM smartphone looks right at home in a corporate environment.
